Frequently Asked Questions
Cost of Lessons & Getting Started!
If you are new to ballroom dancing, we suggest that you start off with our introductory lesson.  This lesson consists of (1) 45  minute private lesson  for you or you and a partner for only $40.00!  Private lessons can be scheduled at your convenience from 11:00am to 10 pm Monday - Friday and Saturday by appointment. After our introductory lesson our prices vary since all of our students' programs are designed to fit our students' learning ability and desire.  For your convenience we accept a variety of payment types, including Visa, Mastercard and Discover.   The Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Bloomfield Hills is just a phone call away!  Call to set up your first private lesson, and we'll take it from there!

Do I Need a Partner?
NO.  At Fred Astaire Dance Studios we teach both singles and couples.  If you join us as a single student, your instructor will take the place of your partner for your private lessons.  Our group and practice lessons will provide plenty of opportunity for single students to meet other students with the same interests and goals.

What is a Private Lesson?
Private lessons consist of one student or a couple working with one instructor.  These lessons provide the most benefit and ease for learning to dance since all material is catered to the individuals learning ability and desire.  A couple may be accompanied by one or two instructors depending on the needs of the students.  Private lessons are by appointment only and may be scheduled from 1:00pm-10:00pm Monday -Friday and occasionally on Saturday.

What is a Group Lesson?
A  group lesson consists of several students learning from one instructor.  Students concentrate primarily on the basic steps and technique.  Our group lessons cover a wide level of dancing providing all levels of students with the opportunity to join our classes.  Check out our studio calendar to find this months schedule. Group Lessons are FREE to all current students...by attending one private lesson a week you can then come to as many group lessons you want that week!

What is a Practice Party?
Our practice lessons prepare you for dancing socially and allow you to apply material learned in your lessons without the pressure of the public eye upon you.  Practice Parties are themed, include appetizers and beverages and are held every friday night .  Reservations are preferred, so please call ahead and let us know that you are planning on attending.  Our students attend to have fun, learn, and get the chance to dance with others.  Check out our studio calendar to find this months schedule. All parties are FREE to current students... By attending one private lesson a week you can then join us at our party for FREE that week!

What is a Guest Party?
Every Thursday night, we sponsor a champagne guest party.  A guest party allows our students the chance to introduce their friends and family to the world and benefits of dancing while earning a FREE bonus lesson for themselves!  A qualified guest is someone who is atleast 18 years of age; lives wihtin a 25 mile radius, and could benefit from dance lessons.  During the night our instructors and students will perform several dances, demonstrating the various levels of dance we teach.  Reservations are preferred, so please call ahead and let us know how many guests you plan on bringing.

What Do We Teach?
Our goal is to prepare you to dance with confidence in any social situation.  Our curriculum consists of several basic dances that will allow you to dance anywhere, with anyone, on any occasion!  The most common dances are Fox Trot, Waltz, Tango, Rumba, Cha-Cha, Swing, Mambo, Meringue, Samba, Hustle, and by request Vienesse Waltz, Bolero and Paso Doble.

How Should I Dress for My Lesson?
Wear something comfortable that won't inhibit your movements.  Of course, comfortable shoes are recommended!  We suggest a pair of leather-soled shoes, no sneakers or rubber -soled shoes.  For the ladies we suggest a low heel shoe with a back.

Is it Difficult to Learn to Dance?
NO.  Most people believe that they have two left feet, but we believe that anyone can learn to be comfortable and have fun on the dance floor!  Our trophy system of instruction makes it easy to learn.   It will take time to learn the various dances and a repertoire of steps.  However, the learning is easy and fun.  A steady approach with periodic practice will produce visible results in a short period of time.
